Start your Tigrinya journey with the most important words: how to say hello, introduce yourself, and ask someone's name.

Lesson 1: Greetings

Selam (ሰላም) — Hello / Peace. This single word is the foundation of every Tigrinya greeting. It carries both a literal meaning (peace) and a social function equivalent to hello, hi, or good day depending on context.

Kemey aleka? (ከመይ ኣለካ?) — How are you? (to a male). Kemey aleki? (ከመይ ኣለኪ?) — How are you? (to a female). The response: Tsebuk, ameseginaley (ጽቡቕ፡ ኣመስጊነልካ) — Fine, thank you.
