The Sudan civil war is spilling over into Chad

Violent armed clashes occurred on the borders of both countries, resulting in the death of five members of the Chadian army and many injuries.

"Various parties are expressing concern that the ongoing civil war in Sudan, fought between forces led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, is spilling over into neighboring Chad.

In the past week, violent armed clashes occurred on the borders of both countries, resulting in the death of five members of the Chadian army and many injuries. Following this, the leader of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Déby, issued an order for the borders with Sudan to be closed and strictly guarded.

When speaking about this decision, President Mahamat Idriss Déby stated that it is primarily related to his country's internal security. However, many interested observers point out that the President has often made contradictory decisions to maintain his favorable relations with the Gulf (Khaleej) countries, and this current decision to close the border is no different. Chad is recognized as one of the countries most severely impacted by the war in Sudan.

Although it is noted that those currently in power in Chad show clear sympathy toward the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), they have repeatedly stated that they do not want their relationship with the state of Sudan to deteriorate.

Chad, with a population of approximately 20 million, is considered one of the major African nations located in the heart of the Sahara in North Africa."
